Kids Plus Oil Tanks Equal Tragedy

There are over 800,000 crude oil and natural gas facilities across the U.S., and many are located in rural areas without safety and security features. One consequence is that since 1983, explosions at 26 of these sites have killed 44 members of the public, all under the age of 25. That grim statistic leads off a report on the hazards of oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) facilities recently released by the U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB). The report includes recommendations to individual states, EPA, and two organizations that publish industry safety codes to take actions to reduce explosion hazards at E&P sites.
